About Us‎ > ‎

History

In 1971, a group of Penn State students began serving the community by taking calls at their homes from community members seeking help with substance-related issues. Within a couple of years, the organization was formalized as On-Drugs, Inc.

Our 24-hour services expanded over time to include general short-term counseling and emotional support, crisis intervention, education, and information and referral -- so our name changed, too, to Wellspring. In 2001, Wellspring merged with Centre County's Volunteer Center to form Community Help Centre.

Since its inception, CHC has been staffed by a committed corps of volunteers, and volunteerism is integral to the organization's core mission and structure. This legacy of generosity and service
continues to guide Community Help Centre today.
