Announcing Centre Help's NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR!!!

posted Oct 19, 2017, 10:36 AM by Madi Nitzky

October 19, 2017

Centre Helps is pleased to announce the appointment of Leanne Lenz as Executive Director, commencing January 1, 2018Leanne completed the Centre Helps Hotline Training Program as a college junior in the fall of 2002.  While filling her duties as Hotline Volunteer and her commitment to the mission of Centre Helps grew stronger, she took on the roles of Hotline Trainer, Youthful Offenders Program Instructor, and the full-time position of Program Coordinator.

Since her departure from Centre Helps in 2010, Leanne has gained valuable experience through a direct service position in Penn State's Health Promotion and Wellness department and has gained nonprofit leadership experience through her work at Pennsylvania Certified Organic.  Leanne is committed to the mission of Centre Helps and is eager to give back to the community and to be part of the organization that began her career in nonprofit leadership.

Leanne received her Master's Degree in Human Resources and her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, both from Penn State University.  She resides in State College with her husband and two daughters.

Current Executive Director, Bonnie Tatterson, is retiring at the end of the year. Joining the agency in 2010, Bonnie has increased the profile of Centre Helps in the Centre County community, led the agency through an office move, initiated new programming, and guided a rebranding campaign and an organizational name change.  Bonnie’s leadership has provided Leanne with a great platform to move Centre Helps forward.

Thank you to Bonnie Tatterson for her direction and hard work and welcome to Leanne Lenz as the Centre Helps Executive Director.

New Centre Helps Logo
Since our beginnings in 1972 as On Drugs, we have continually aided Centre County residents in crisis. For our 45th anniversary, we have simplified our name from Community Help Centre to Centre Helps. We are committed to Empowering Lives on the Line by helping with any problem, any time.

“Do you know someone who is facing hunger? Medical problems? Homelessness, abuse, struggling with addiction, needing financial assistance? Help is out there, but where to start? Who can help you navigate services and resources? Where can you call for help after 5:00 PM? Centre Helps is that place”.

As we recognize the growing needs in our community, we look forward to continued collaboration with your efforts, and welcome an opportunity to meet with you and your office to describe the important programs and services Centre Helps provides in our community.

Support CHC on Centre Gives 2016

posted May 2, 2016, 6:56 AM by Nathaniel Rasmussen

Please consider making your donation with the Centre Foundation through Centre Gives to Community Help Centre on Tuesday, May 3 between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. If Community Help Centre receives the most unique donations at this time, we will win an additional prize of $1,000! Of course, any donation at any time from 6am Tuesday through 6pm Wednesday is greatly appreciated!

As an organization mainly run by volunteers, the Community Help Centre is able to help community members while simultaneously providing volunteer opportunities to our hotline staff and administrative assistants. Hotline staff gain invaluable experience regarding counseling, resource navigation, and people skills while at the same time learning what it means to truly give back to their community. Administrative assistants ensure sustainability of the agency and gain understanding of community resources and opportunities while gaining meaningful professional experiences.

Please consider helping us continue to provide these opportunities that strengthen individuals and our community!

Bingo as we know it today has its origins in Italy and has been enjoyed in that country since 1530. Proceeds from these games is indispensable to the Italian government's budget, with a yearly contribution in excess of 75 million dollars.

While we don’t expect to raise this kind of funding for Community Help Centre, your participation in this year’s An Evening of BINGO will contribute to the sustainability of CHC’s important work.

Calvary Church will again generously allow use of their beautiful (NEW!) facility for the event and community merchants are donating exciting prizes for the event: a year-long family membership to the YMCA, a KINDLE Fire, spa treatments, gift certificates for dining and wine tasting, and much, much more will make for an enjoyable evening while supporting a good cause.

Centre Gives Logo
Community Help Centre deeply appreciates your generous support in the past. We ask that you again include the agency in your giving plans this year by participating in CentreGives.org.  This exciting, thirty-six hour on-line giving opportunity will go directly to nonprofits and will be amplified by Centre Foundation’s stretch pool. From Tuesday May 5th at 6am through Wednesday May 6th at 6pm, your donation will go twice as far to insure that Centre County residents in need have a 24/7/365 resource accessible to them.

Community Help Centre continues to provide emotional support, short-term counseling, and information and referral services to Centre County residents.  During 2014, 10,000 individuals and families were offered assistance.  Substance abuse and support group information, case management, budget counseling and advocacy, emergency shelter and transportation for eligible individuals, an emergency food pantry, and registration for our community’s overnight emergency shelter program all take place within CHC.

Please go to CentreGives.org on May 5 and 6 to designate your support. Thank you for helping CHC to be here 24 hours a day, everyday.
