• The Youthful Offenders Program (YOP) is an educational program for youth cited for violating drug and alcohol laws. The program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate a culture where substance use and misuse are prevalent.

YOP encourages youth to make safe, responsible choices and to confidently handle potentially risky or dangerous situations. The program explores the social, physical, psychological, economic, and legal impacts of alcohol and other substance use and misuse.

  • Through guided instruction and discussion, participants gain practical skills and information, including:

    • Decision-making and critical thinking skills

    • Understanding the effects and consequences of substance use

    • Strategies for safe and responsible behavior

    • Insight from guest speakers with backgrounds in law enforcement and substance recovery

    • Opportunities to learn from peers through shared experiences

All classes are discussion-based and designed to be engaging, supportive, and educational.

  • The course consists of four discussion-based classes, held over Zoom. Students participate in guided activities and interactive discussions led by skilled instructors.

Students who successfully complete the Youthful Offenders Program as an alternative adjudication option may have their charges dismissed.
